Grass Fed Beef

At Hood Farms & Sawmill, we raise our cattle the way nature intended. Our cattle graze on lush grass pastures their entire life. We do our best to be good stewards of the farm, and rotationally graze the cattle, to mimic natural migration as if they were in the wild. We raise Red Devon, a Heritage breed known for great finishing on grass alone. They were first brought to America as early as 1580, making them one of the first breeds to be imported from Europe. They are extremely docile, gentle with our three young kids, and excellent mothers to their calfs. To finish 100% grass fed beef correctly, and allow them to fill out, it takes up to 24 months. They never receive any kind of hormones or growth implants. If you want to make sure you are getting a safe, healthy option for you and your family, you have found the right farm. We would love to talk about our beef anytime. Just give us a call.

We raise our cattle on pasture their whole life, but do have the option to finish them out on non-GMO corn the last 3-6 months of their life. This provides more marbling and a fattier finish. If that is the way you prefer your beef, we would be glad to go that route for you. You can rest assured they are getting the same terrific treatment and management style.

The average piece of meat travels up to 1500 miles before it gets to your plate. Instead of settling for average, why not support your local farmers, meet our family, and know where your meat is coming from?

If you have any questions on our process or our beef, please don’t hesitate to call or email us.
